most girls love it when they are listened to. strike up a lighthearted conversation, find out her interests, find things that you have in common, and then in later conversations bring up something that you talked about before to show her that you really listened to her when she spoke. and to get her number, being straightforward is always a good way to ask for it, but if thats too overwhelming, try to be in a situation where you are talking about texting, or texting somebody else in front of her, and then say 'hey, i don't think i have your number!'
Well, flirting with a girl is really easy. here are some tips:



Hold eye contact with her and smile

touch her - even if its a friendly punch

compliment her - such as hair, makeup , clothes etc etc

if she gets hurt fuss over her- like if a guy shoves her, shove him then ask if she is alright.



for her number:

ask er for help in a subject and ask her to come over to help u n say u will call her n she probs will give u her number.
I think it's sweet when (if you don't really know her, but know her name) you go up to a girl and your like hey, you're ';Fill in the Bank'; right? And then she'd be like, Ya... And your like, ';Well I'm ';Insert your name here'; and she'll act like I don't know you so why are you talking to me, and then your just like, your in my math class (or whatever) and I've wanted to meet you for a while now....

And then you start a conversation from there. And when she starts only giving you one-word answers. You say, ';Okay, well, I'll see you around.'; And then you just leave.

She'll want to get to know you more and expect for you to still try and talk to her every once and a while. And if you don't, then she knows your not interested.
